Truro City manager John Askey has stated that it remains “still early days” for his team, even though they currently hold the top spot in National League South. Askey assumed leadership of Truro City during the summer, following Paul Wotton’s departure to join Torquay United. The Tinners are ahead of Weston-super-Mare due to a superior goal difference, as they prepare for a challenging away match against fifth-placed Dorking Wanderers this Saturday. Dorking Wanderers, who were relegated from the National League last season, were responsible for one of Truro’s mere four league defeats this season, securing a 2-1 victory on the opening day. They approach the upcoming fixture having recently achieved a 7-1 win against Hemel Hempstead on Monday. Speaking to BBC radio Cornwall, Askey remarked, “It’s obviously better to be in that position than any other.” He continued, “It’s going well, the players have worked really hard, and it’s better than we could ever have imagined at the start of the season, but it’s early days yet.” Askey’s squad has demonstrated strong performance this season, with the new Truro boss guiding his team to 11 victories in 19 league matches since his arrival in the summer. This marks the inaugural full season under the stewardship of Truro’s new Canadian owners, coinciding with the club’s return to the city and a new stadium after nearly four years of playing away from home. Askey further commented, “Nobody could have expected it.” He elaborated, “With going to a new ground and everything fairly new for the football club, it couldn’t be going any better.” However, he cautioned, “But we’ve just got to continue trying to do what we’re doing and hopefully come the end of the season we’re still in amongst it.” Post navigation Luis Binks Links Coventry’s Defeat to Poor Start Against Derby Leicester City Manager Discusses Defeat, Citing Miscommunication and Individual Errors
