Northamptonshire has confirmed the re-signing of Ravi Bopara, an experienced all-rounder who previously played for England, Essex, and Sussex, for the upcoming T20 Blast season. Bopara represented England in 171 matches across all formats from 2007 to 2015. The 39-year-old player recorded 340 runs and secured 13 wickets during the 2024 competition. However, a hand injury prevented him from participating in the Steelbacks’ quarter-final loss against Somerset. Bopara, a winner of the Blast in 2019 with Essex, is nearing a career total of 9,500 runs across 478 T20 matches. He also requires nine additional wickets to achieve 300 wickets in the T20 format. Bopara expressed his enthusiasm for his return, stating: “I’m very excited to be coming back to Northamptonshire in 2025. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there this year. It’s a very good squad – hopefully we can go that step further than last year and make it to Finals Day.” Ray Payne, Northamptonshire’s chief executive, acknowledged Bopara’s “very important” contribution to the club last summer and extended a welcome for his return to Wantage Road. Payne further commented: “He has so much experience in the game and we’re looking forward to him playing a big part in helping the squad challenge for silverware next season.” For the 2025 season, Northants will operate under the guidance of Darren Lehmann, a former Australian batter and head coach, who has signed a two-year agreement to take over from John Sadler.
