South African Lizelle Lee, who retired from international cricket in 2022, established a new record for the highest individual score in the Women’s Big Bash League. Playing for the Hobart Hurricanes against the Perth Scorchers, Lee scored an unbeaten 150 runs from just 75 balls. Her innings, which included 12 fours and 12 sixes, propelled the Hobart Hurricanes to a total of 203-3 from their 20 overs. In response, the Perth Scorchers were bowled out for 131 in 19.3 overs, leading to a crushing 72-run win for the Hurricanes, with all-rounder Heather Graham taking 3-24. Lee’s remarkable performance comfortably surpassed the previous record of 136, set by Australian Grace Harris for Brisbane Heat – also against the Scorchers – in 2023. While Lee’s opening partner, England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge, was dismissed for four, and Australia’s Nicola Carey fell for a first-ball duck, contributions of 14 from Elyse Villani and an unbeaten 23 from Graham supported Lee’s dominance over a fatigued Scorchers bowling attack. All-rounder Chloe Ainsworth was the only Scorchers bowler to emerge with respectable figures, taking 2-17. The Scorchers’ chase began poorly, with New Zealand’s World Cup-winning captain Sophie Devine dismissed on the first ball of the innings. Only Ainsworth’s 41 runs from 27 balls, batting at number eight, prevented a complete collapse for her team. Elsewhere in the league, England captain Heather Knight continued her excellent form by achieving a second successive half-century in Sydney Thunder’s 18-run victory over Sydney Sixers. Knight scored 50 from 31 balls as Thunder posted 158-6, with Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield adding 34 from 25. For the Sixers, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone proved expensive, conceding 1-40 from her four overs, as her team was bowled out for 140 in reply.
