Shrewsbury Town has announced the signing of goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a short-term contract. Blackman previously played for Exeter City during the 2022-23 season, making 38 appearances in League One. The 31-year-old Blackman began his professional career at Chelsea. He previously collaborated with current Shrewsbury (Salop) manager Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe Wanderers during the 2016-17 campaign, a season in which he earned the club’s young player of the year award. Blackman’s career has seen him play for several clubs within the English Football League, such as Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Leeds United, and Exeter City. He has been unattached since his release by Burton Albion at the conclusion of last season. He is expected to be immediately available for Shrewsbury’s upcoming League One fixture against Wigan on Saturday.
