Everton achieved their inaugural Women’s Super League victory of the season by defeating rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park. Following the match, both team managers provided their comments to Sky Sports. Everton boss Brian Sorensen described the win as “magic,” expressing immense pride in his team. He stated, “So proud of the girls, they really deserve it.” Sorensen noted that while they had been “a bit unfortunate at times this season,” today “it was a bit on our side,” emphasizing that the team “gave everything we had on the pitch.” He also mentioned “some crazy minutes at the end.” Regarding the penalty decision, Sorensen admitted, “I haven’t seen it back so I don’t know,” but accepted that “it is given and we took the chance.” He added that the team also “created some opportunities on the transitions which was more of the plan today.” Liverpool boss Matt Beard expressed significant frustration, stating, “What can I say? It’s not a penalty. I get more and more frustrated.” Beard asserted that “the officials have let my players down today,” insisting, “It is not a penalty for them, it is outside the box.” Beard concluded that “Ultimately the referee’s decision has cost us potentially three points today.” He recalled his pre-game assessment that “Everton are a tough side when they get in front they are hard to break down.” He further criticized the officials, noting that despite the referee and lineswoman having “a great view, no obstructions,” they “come up with that decision,” effectively “gifting an opportunity like that” to Everton.
