Crambo, wearing the pink jersey, successfully defended his Long Walk Hurdle title at Ascot, securing consecutive Grade One victories in the event. The seven-year-old, under the training of Fergal O’Brien and ridden by Jonathan Burke, triumphed over Hiddenvalley Lake in wet conditions. He overtook Beauport in the final stages of the race and then fended off a late challenge from Hiddenvalley Lake. A visibly emotional O’Brien expressed his feelings to ITV4, stating, “I’m speechless. I’m so grateful for everyone at home. It’s not been easy. I’ve had bad days.” In the same race, Beauport secured third place, while The Wallpark came in fourth. Following his previous victory at Ascot a year prior, Crambo had faced challenges in replicating his top form, with less successful performances at Cheltenham and Aintree during the spring. Starting with odds of 9-1, Crambo demonstrated significant stamina to overcome Beauport. Beauport had initially taken a strong lead and appeared poised for an easy win until a substantial jump at the last hurdle allowed the other leading contenders to close the gap. The favourite, Strong Leader, concluded the race in 10th position, never posing a serious challenge for the victory.
