West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan has rejected speculation connecting him to the vacant managerial position at Southampton, labeling such talk as “disrespectful.” Corberan has managed West Bromwich Albion in 106 games since October 2022, achieving 46 victories. The 41-year-old Spaniard is reportedly among several potential candidates for the role following the dismissal of Russell Martin, with Saints currently at the bottom of the Premier League. However, Corberan stated that there has been no contact, affirming his sole concentration is on Sunday’s home match against Bristol City, and expressed his annoyance on behalf of Baggies supporters. “For me it is disrespectful for this great club and our amazing fans to be talking about something that is not related to West Bromwich Albion,” he told BBC Radio WM. He added: “Sometimes I feel that if you cut to say, ‘I only focus on the game’ and I don’t talk about anything else – there can be speculation about this.” Albion enters Sunday’s fixture against 11th-placed Bristol City in eighth position in the Championship, having secured only three wins in their last 15 games, with 10 of those matches ending in a draw. “I can only tell you that my full focus is to prepare the next game,” Corberan further stated. “I don’t like that our fans or anyone else at this club can feel any type of disrespect with all of these rumours that can appear.” “I am clear on this, so I am going to speak about Bristol, about what we are going to do in the club, that I can control.” He concluded: “Because there are things I cannot control and I cannot talk about things I cannot control.” Corberan’s Baggies were defeated by Martin’s Saints across two legs in last season’s Championship play-off semi-finals. Southampton, who were beaten by holders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, does not anticipate having a new manager in place before their trip to Fulham on Sunday.
