Cardiff City will need to manage the player widely considered the Championship’s standout performer this season if their recent improved form is to persist against Norwich City this Saturday (15:00 GMT). The Bluebirds, under interim manager Omer Riza, will aim for their fourth victory in seven matches when the Canaries visit the Welsh capital. However, Riza’s defense – which has conceded only one goal in its last five games – will face Borja Sainz this weekend, the Spanish forward who leads the second tier in scoring with 10 goals from 12 appearances. Sainz, aged 23, scored twice in Norwich’s 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough last weekend, bringing his total goal count for the season to 11 in 14 appearances. He registered eight goals in his inaugural Championship season, but has truly distinguished himself this campaign for a Norwich team currently eighth in the table, having suffered only one league defeat since the opening weekend, despite recording six draws. Sainz, who joined Norwich from the Turkish club Giresunspor, primarily operates from the left flank. With Perry Ng unavailable due to suspension this weekend, his replacement on the right side of Cardiff’s defense could encounter a challenging afternoon.
