Brighton midfielder Mats Wieffer reflected on the disappointing outcome at the London Stadium during an interview on BBC Radio Sussex. He stated: “You do it for the win and I think we deserved the win, not based on the first-half but more on the second-half. I think we have to work on playing consistently for 90 minutes, and not only for one half.” Wieffer further noted that in their recent matches, the team has demonstrated strong performance in one half but struggled in the other, underscoring the necessity for greater consistency. He mentioned that Brighton created several scoring opportunities, including a shot that struck the post and another involving [Yasin] Ayari. Wieffer suggested that with slightly more fortune, they could have secured a 2-1 victory. Wieffer concluded this point by emphasizing the team’s need for self-assessment and improvement. He acknowledged that the current situation presents challenges but stressed the importance of continued effort, consistency, and hard work. Regarding his goal, Wieffer commented: “I was in the right place so I’m really happy with the goal, but unfortunately it’s not the three points.” He also expressed satisfaction at starting the game, noting that he feels significantly better and more confident than previously, which he considers a positive development.
