Brighton and Hove Albion FC has characterized the official presentation of the Freedom of the City as “a wonderful honour.” This recognition was bestowed upon the club for its “exceptional service to the community,” following the team’s inaugural European campaign during the 2023/24 season, which contributed over £600 million to the local economy. Paul Barber, the chief executive and deputy chairman, officially received the city’s highest ceremonial award at the Brighton & Hove Community Stadium, also known as the Amex Stadium. Bella Sankey, a “lifelong fan” and leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, stated: “I’ve watched with delight as the Seagulls have soared to success over the past few years.” In the 2022/23 season, The Seagulls secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, thereby qualifying for UEFA’s Europa League and generating over £600 million for the local economy. The football Club was granted the Freedom of the City award during a special council meeting in November 2023, though the official ceremony was delayed for over a year. Mr Barber commented: “The Freedom of the City award is a wonderful honour for the club, and it’s great to know the whole of the community in Brighton and Hove is behind us.” He added: “Our achievements, particularly in the last few years, have helped promote the club and the city across the world and this is something we are very proud of.” Ms Sankey stated that the club has provided “joy, pride and inspiration” to multiple generations of residents. She further remarked: “I’m proud of how the club’s success has contributed to the local economy and boosted the profile of Brighton & Hove off the pitch.” Post navigation Tributes Honor Kath Phipps, Long-Serving Manchester United Figure Ireland Rugby Team Aims for Immediate Performance Against New Zealand
