Swimmer Emma McKeon, recognized as Australia’s most decorated Olympian, has announced her retirement from the sport. She also secured 20 medals at world championships. The 30-year-old athlete accumulated a total of 14 medals, including six golds, over the course of three Olympic Games. On Instagram, she stated, “I am officially retiring from competitive swimming.” She further explained, “Leading into Paris, I knew it would be my last Olympics, and the months since have given me time to reflect on my journey, and think about what I wanted my future to look like in swimming.” McKeon added, “I am proud of myself for giving my swimming career absolutely everything, both physically and mentally.” Concluding her reflection, she wrote, “I wanted to see what I was capable of – and I did.” At her inaugural Games in Rio 2016, McKeon secured three relay medals and an individual bronze in the 200m freestyle event. Subsequently, at Tokyo 2020, she achieved a seven-medal haul, which included four gold medals. With 11 medals accumulated by that time, she exceeded the Australian record of nine medals previously held jointly by Ian Thorpe and Leisel Jones. McKeon further augmented her Olympic medal count with an additional three medals at the Paris 2024 Games. She also stated, “Now I am excited to see how I can push myself in other ways, and for all the things that life has in store.” Australia’s swimming coach Rohan Taylor commented, “She always carried herself with dignity, and while we all saw her grace – the public can not truly appreciate how tough she is.” Post navigation Ilona Maher: Social Media Success Fuels Professional Rugby Career Luton Boss Edwards Attributes Defeat to Players
