Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has stated that he possesses a contingency plan in the event of key player departures from the club during the January or summer 2025 transfer windows. The club is currently in discussions with midfielder Jamie McGrath and left-back Jack MacKenzie, both of whom are nearing the conclusion of their contracts this summer. MacKenzie is also reportedly attracting interest from Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Stoke City. In light of the lack of a natural right-back to cover Nicky Devlin, Aberdeen’s priorities for the January transfer window will include strengthening their defensive options. The acquisition of another wide player may also be pursued, following recent injuries to Vicente Besuijen and Jack Milne.
