Former England internationals Steph Houghton, Alex Scott, and Gilly Flaherty, alongside referee Rebecca Welch, have been inducted into the Women’s Super League Hall of Fame. Alex Scott, who played for England on 140 occasions, secured 21 trophies with Arsenal over a 12-year period. Steph Houghton claimed seven trophies during her three years with the Gunners before her transfer to Manchester City in 2014. Houghton, aged 36, led Manchester City as captain to seven trophies throughout her ten-year tenure at the club, notably their inaugural league title in 2016. She also captained England for eight years. Gilly Flaherty, 33, amassed 22 trophies during her time playing for both Arsenal and Chelsea. Upon her retirement last year, she held the record for the highest number of appearances in the WSL, with 177. Rebecca Welch marks a milestone as the first official to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She has refereed matches throughout the women’s game and was the first female official to officiate a Premier League, EFL, and men’s FA Cup fixture. These four individuals represent the third group to be inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame since its establishment in 2021. The initial inductees included Chelsea manager Emma Hayes and former England internationals Rachel Yankey and Fara Williams. Former Lionesses Karen Carney, Eni Aluko, Katie Chapman, and Kelly Smith received the honor in 2022, while Jill Scott, Ellen White, and Anita Asante were inducted last year.
