Wrexham is currently awaiting information regarding the severity of a thigh injury sustained by goalkeeper Callum Burton, who joined the club on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 2024. Burton incurred the injury during the initial half of his team’s 1-0 League One victory against Barnsley on Tuesday evening. Manager Phil Parkinson confirmed that Burton would undergo assessment and is guaranteed to be unavailable for Saturday’s fixture at Burton Albion. Parkinson stated, “It looks like a thigh strain so he’ll go for a scan.” He further added, “Callum’s not going to be fit for the weekend, there’s no chance of that. But the extent of it we don’t know.” The manager expressed his disappointment, saying, “Really disappointed for Callum because he’s been brilliant since he came into the side.” The 28-year-old player had been given an opportunity to play following Arthur Okonkwo’s six-week absence due to a broken wrist, which occurred during a victory against Mansfield Town in early November. According to Parkinson, former Arsenal goalkeeper Okonkwo is still “a couple of weeks” away from making his return. Mark Howard substituted Burton after only 23 minutes into the match against Barnsley, and the manager highly commended the experienced goalkeeper. Parkinson further commented, “Special mention to Mark because what a great example to all our young players and the lads who have not been in the team.” He continued, “He’s trained well every day, so professional, and he’s been preparing himself for the moment if it comes.” Parkinson concluded, “It did and he took it brilliantly. His distribution was great and he’s made one really important save.” Wrexham maintains its second position in League One following the 1-0 triumph over Barnsley at the Stok Racecourse, a game in which Ollie Rathbone secured the winning goal in stoppage time.
