Worcester Warriors has announced its intention to submit a planning application for the redevelopment of Sixways Stadium prior to Christmas. The proposed plans encompass an expansion of the north stand, which would increase the stadium’s capacity. Additionally, the proposals include the construction of a new hotel, a medical and sports rehabilitation center, and a versatile events venue. Stephen Vaughan, the Warriors’ strategy director, stated: “We’re excited to reveal these new plans for Sixways and set the stage for a sustainable future for the club and its supporters.” As part of a public consultation effort, residents in the vicinity have received letters inviting them to provide feedback on the proposals. Mr. Vaughan emphasized the importance of community input, saying: “Feedback from our fans and local residents is essential in shaping our plans.” He added, “We want to know how we can best meet the needs of the Warriors’ community to create a vibrant destination for sport, entertainment, and wellbeing that benefits everyone.” According to the club, the north stand’s redevelopment is projected to feature a new “Watch Tower” viewing platform and a new fan zone, elevating Sixways’ capacity from 11,500 to 12,750. The comprehensive plans also detail a 120-bed hotel, intended “to boost the Worcestershire economy and encourage city-centre tourism,” alongside a multi-storey car park and enhanced cycle connections. Furthermore, the club committed to reintroducing a matchday shuttle bus service operating from the city center and the railway station. This development follows the Warriors’ formal submission in November of a bid to re-enter competitive rugby, specifically an application to participate in the Championship during the 2025-2026 season. This occurred two years after the club entered administration and was subsequently prohibited from the Premiership. Mr. Vaughan indicated that the planning application underscores the club’s dedication to resuming competitive play. He stated: “These new plans for Sixways, alongside the club’s recent application to Join the RFU’s new Tier 2, demonstrates our aspirations to return to playing competitive rugby for the supporters of the club and the wider Worcestershire community alike.” The public consultation period for these plans is scheduled from 2 to 16 December. Individuals are encouraged to submit their feedback through the Sixways website or by attending an in-person event at the stadium on 10 December.
