Woking Football Club has dismissed manager Michael Doyle following the team’s 4-0 defeat by Gateshead on Saturday. Doyle’s record during his 48 games in charge of Woking included 14 wins and 21 losses. The club currently holds the 19th spot in the National League, positioned one point above the relegation zone, after experiencing three defeats in their last four matches. Doyle, a former midfielder for Coventry and Sheffield United, was appointed in December 2023 and played a role in Woking securing a 17th-place finish last season. Assistant manager Ben Turner has also been relieved of his position. A statement from Woking conveyed: “We thank them both for their contribution to the club, in particular last season in helping the club avoid relegation.” The statement continued: “Plans are in place to move forward as quickly and efficiently as possible.” Woking has competed in the top tier of non-league football since the 2019-20 season, and two years ago, the club reached the play-offs before being eliminated by Bromley. The club is anticipated to be sold to the Cardinal Football Group, led by US businessman Todd Johnson. Shareholders voted in favor of the takeover agreement at a meeting held this month.
