Wigan Athletic Secures Defender Paul Dummett on Short-Term Deal

Paul Dummett, who featured in eight matches for Newcastle last season, has been signed by League One club Wigan Athletic on a short-term contract that will run until early January. The 33-year-old defender, who progressed through Premier League side Newcastle’s youth system and spent 14 years at St James’ Park before leaving as a free agent at the close of last season, accumulated 213 appearances for the Magpies, including 151 in the top flight. “Signing for Wigan Athletic is something I’m delighted to do,” Dummett told the club website. “It’s a club with rich history and a brilliant, young squad that I can hopefully help progress up the league during my time here.”
