Welsh mixed martial artist Jack Shore has declared his retirement from the sport, having chosen not to renew his contract with the UFC. His most recent victory was against Makwan Amirkhani in 2023. The 29-year-old conveyed his decision via an Instagram post, stating he has “mentally checked out” from competing and that “injuries have caught up with me after a lifetime in the sport”. Known by his nickname ‘Tank’, Shore concludes his career with a professional record of 17 victories in 20 bouts. He stated, “As what may come as a surprise to a few I’ve decided to hang up the gloves on my professional fighting career.” Shore added, “After fighting out my contract and taking some time to think about what’s next, and although I had the chance to re sign with UFC, I’ve decided my time’s done.” Prior to joining the UFC in 2019, Shore held the bantamweight championship title in the UK-based promotion Cage Warriors. During his tenure with the UFC, he competed nine times, securing six wins. His final bout was in November against Youssef Zalal, where he experienced a second-round submission loss. He further explained, “For the entirety of my 20’s, fighting and training was my life and sole focus, however, the last few weeks/months have shown this is no longer the case.” Shore continued, “And I always promised myself when I was mentality checked out I would retire from the sport rather than the sport retire me. Injures have caught up with me after a lifetime in the sport.” He concluded this section by stating, “I’m leaving with my mental [health] in check, good health, financially stable and am fully ready to move on to the future.” Within his comprehensive social media announcement, Shore extended gratitude to the UFC, his family, friends, coaches, and gym. He remarked, “What a journey,” adding, “For once, I can finally say I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and always did my best.” Shore expressed, “Hopefully, when people think of Welsh MMA they’ll always think of Tank Shore. Big love to you all. Tank out.”
