Katie Archibald secured second place in both the scratch and elimination races during Friday’s second round. Despite this, she maintained her lead in the women’s endurance competition at the Track Champions League, though her advantage was reduced by two points after Saturday’s third round. Representing Britain, Archibald claimed victory in the elimination race but placed 12th in the scratch event, which took place in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Her cumulative points total now stands at 98. Meanwhile, Canada’s Sarah van Dam, who finished second in the elimination race and third in the scratch, trails Archibald by 27 points, holding a total of 71. In the men’s sprint league, British competitor Matthew Richardson narrowed the gap to Dutch leader Harrie Lavreysen, now being within five points of him. Concurrently, Emma Finucane experienced a drop from third to fifth position in the women’s sprint discipline. Lavreysen commenced the third round with a seven-point lead, which he expanded to ten points following his win in the men’s sprint. However, Richardson subsequently reduced this lead by half after securing a victory in the men’s keirin. Lavreysen initially finished fourth in the keirin but was later elevated to third place after his team-mate, Jeffrey Hoogland, received a relegation for an illegal overtake. Emma Finucane, who holds the title of women’s individual sprint world champion, was eliminated during the heats of both the keirin and sprint events. The 21-year-old Welsh athlete currently holds 66 points, trailing Russian leader Alina Lysenko by 49 points. The concluding two rounds of this year’s Champions League are scheduled to take place at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark on December 6 and 7.
