Johannes Hoff Thorup, who took over as Norwich boss in May, succeeding David Wagner, has declared that he is currently facing the most severe injury crisis of his managerial career. This statement comes as he readies his team for Tuesday’s Championship fixture against Sheffield Wednesday. The Danish coach is focused on revitalizing his short-handed squad after their 2-1 loss to Cardiff on Saturday, a match where the Canaries conceded goals in the 89th and 93rd minutes. Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk, Thorup stated, “We brought [Christian] Fassnacht and Tony Springett on the bench the other day but they were not available.” He further explained the situation, saying, “We had 15, 16 outfield players available for minutes, where one of them was a youth team player who just came from a Friday night game against Manchester City.” Thorup characterized the circumstances, adding, “It’s a crazy situation that we’re in but we’ll deal with it and we’ll support each other, but of course we’ll look at it and see if we can make any changes – are we doing something wrong here?” Currently, a total of 11 first-team players are unavailable to Thorup. This list includes goalkeeper Angus Gunn, Marcelino Nunez, and Scottish midfielder Gabriel Forsyth, who left Saturday’s game with a knee injury. Additionally, the Norwich boss confirmed that striker Josh Sargent will be sidelined for the upcoming eight weeks. “It is not what we hoped for but it is unfortunately how it is,” Thorup commented. He concluded by stating, “Some of these injuries are game related but we have to look at this as something we can do better – that is the nature of the business we are in.” Post navigation Bernhard Langer Defies Age to Win Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Extends 18-Year Record Wales Women’s Football Team: A Three-Decade Journey to Their First Major Tournament
