Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen, who has played 15 times for the club this season, is contending with a leg injury that may limit his involvement in the team’s busy upcoming match schedule. Allen was absent from Swansea’s win against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, having reportedly sustained a muscle issue during the draw with Luton Town last weekend. Head coach Luke Williams has stated that the club will exercise caution regarding the 34-year-old’s return to play. Williams commented, “Unfortunately he felt something at the end of the last game and it turned out to be a small problem that is going to keep him sidelined for a short period of time.” He added, “I think there’s a chance that we see him over Christmas but we have to be very careful with Joe. He is royalty around these parts.” Swansea, now in ninth place in the Championship following their 2-1 win over Plymouth, will next play Sunderland this Saturday. Their schedule continues with an away match against Hull City on December 21, which is their last fixture before Christmas, followed by home games during the festive period against Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town. Williams’ team is scheduled to visit Portsmouth on New Year’s Day, and then host West Bromwich Albion at the Swansea.com Stadium on January 4. Allen has consistently featured in Williams’ matchday selections this season, having played 15 times for the club, and has also returned from international retirement to join Craig Bellamy’s Wales squad. Williams further stated, “Joe will do everything, he is an incredible pro, and the medical team will help him.” He concluded, “Hopefully we’ll be able to see him at the back end of the Christmas period.”
