A recent survey reveals that the majority of Manchester United supporters favor the construction of a new stadium over the redevelopment of Old Trafford. The findings show that over 52% of the more than 50,000 season ticket holders, members, and executive club members surveyed chose a new facility. In contrast, 31% expressed support for renovating the current stadium, with the remaining respondents indicating indecision regarding the optimal choice. While no definitive timeline has been established for a final decision, the PA news agency reports that the conclusions of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force are not expected to be thoroughly reviewed until spring or summer 2025. It is understood that the task force’s deliberations have primarily centered on constructing a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000, as opposed to renovating the present venue. Initially, it was anticipated that the club’s ownership and the task force—comprising notable figures such as former United defender Gary Neville, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and World Athletics president Lord Coe—might finalize a decision by the close of this year. Nevertheless, United stated that only an “options report” would be presented by year-end. Rick McGagh, the club’s director of fan engagement, expressed the club’s satisfaction that the survey had “received the most responses in the club’s history”. He further stated: “We know how important our home is to fans and we need to listen to them and gain all their views and insights in order to develop the world-class stadium they deserve.” McGagh elaborated on the analysis of the results, noting: “We are able to view the results through different lenses to understand if our season ticket holders feel differently about anything than, say, our official members. “And if younger fans have different views to older fans. This insight is incredibly helpful.” This week, the club is conducting “town hall” sessions at Old Trafford, providing supporters with additional details concerning the different options and proposals under consideration.
