Scotland, Defending Champions, Face Switzerland in European Curling; BBC Coverage Available

The 2024 European Curling Championships will feature a men’s round-robin match between defending champions Scotland and Switzerland on Monday, 18 November, at 10:00 GMT. This event, taking place in Lohja, Finland, will be broadcast live on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and its app. Scotland enters this match with an undefeated record of three wins from three games. On Sunday, Bruce Mouat’s team secured an 8-1 victory over England. Colin Mouat, Bruce’s brother, was part of the defeated English side, serving as an alternate. Scotland commenced their campaign in Finland with an 8-6 win against the Netherlands, followed by a close 6-5 triumph over Norway. Mouat has served as skip for Scotland during their three consecutive European title wins, in addition to their victory in 2018. Scotland’s skip, Mouat, stated, “I would have been annoyed if we’d lost that game.” He further commented, “That’s the brotherly rivalry as well as just me being a complete competitor.” Mouat also remarked, “Colin and I are still speaking, though, and it was quite a special moment to have the chance to play against him at a major championship like this, so I’m really proud of him for getting here and being able to play.” Reflecting on their shared history, he added, “It’s funny to think back to when we were eight years old starting out in curling and now we’re both in our thirties and playing against one another at a European Championships.” He concluded, “It’s pretty baffling to comprehend, but it’s a memory to hold and we’ll be able to look back at photos of this day and be able to reflect on this I’m sure later on in life.” Mouat’s team is also scheduled to compete against Austria on Monday at 18:00. In the women’s competition, Rebecca Morrison’s Scottish rink has achieved one win from three matches. Their Monday schedule includes games against Turkey at 06:00 and Hungary at 14:00.
