Leicester City has confirmed the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy, formerly the manager of PSV Eindhoven, as their new head coach. His inaugural match leading the team will be against West Ham at King Power Stadium on December 3. The Dutch national steps into the role previously held by Steve Cooper, who was dismissed last weekend following only 12 Premier League fixtures at the helm of the Foxes. Van Nistelrooy’s contract with the club extends until June 2027, based at the King Power Stadium. This appointment occurs a fortnight after Van Nistelrooy departed his position as interim head coach for Manchester United, a move that followed Ruben Amorim’s arrival at the club. The 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy expressed his sentiments, stating: “I’m proud, I’m excited.” He added, “Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive. I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club.” Currently, Leicester occupies the 16th position in the Premier League standings, maintaining a one-point lead over the relegation zone. The team is scheduled to play Brentford away on Saturday. Ben Dawson, the first-team coach, will manage the squad for their upcoming match in west London. Subsequently, Van Nistelrooy will assume leadership of the Foxes for his debut game, which will be at home against West Ham on December 3. During his four-match tenure as interim manager at United, Van Nistelrooy recorded three victories and one draw. Notably, two of these wins were achieved against Leicester in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. The only prior senior management position held by the Dutchman was with his former club, PSV Eindhoven, where he guided them to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie during the 2022-23 season. Van Nistelrooy departed PSV prior to the conclusion of that season, attributing his exit to a “lack of support within the club.” Following a year-long break, Van Nistelrooy became part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching team at Old Trafford over the summer. This move came after discussions with Burnley regarding potentially succeeding Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor at the close of the previous season. Van Nistelrooy stated that United was the sole club he would have contemplated joining as an assistant manager, given his record of 150 goals in 219 appearances for them over a five-year period before his transfer to Real Madrid in 2006. Meanwhile, Cooper’s dismissal occurred after a tenure of merely 157 days. Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, the chairman of Leicester City, further commented: “Ruud’s experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us. We look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our club.” Post navigation Norwich’s Cordoba Declared Fit for QPR Match Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Glasner Discusses Eze’s Injury, Team Confidence, and Upcoming Arsenal Match
