Ruben Amorim, the new manager for Manchester United, addressed the frequent comparisons drawn between him and Jose Mourinho, often attributed to their shared Portuguese nationality and successful careers in Portugal. During his interaction with the British media on Friday, Amorim expressed a desire to temper these parallels. Mourinho previously managed at Old Trafford for two-and-a-half years, securing both the League Cup and the Europa League following his appointment in 2016. Mourinho also sent a message to his compatriot Amorim, congratulating him on his new role as Erik ten Hag’s successor at United. Amorim recalled Mourinho’s arrival at Chelsea in 2004, after his Champions League triumph with Porto, stating, “I remember that time,” and added, “You looked at Mourinho and felt he could win everywhere. It’s not the same thing. I’m different to Mourinho. He was European champion, I am not.” He further elaborated on his view of modern football, saying, “Football is different nowadays, I think I am the right person for this moment. I am a young guy and I try to use this to help my players.” Amorim continued, “Their young guys were [Frank] Lampard and these kind of players. Nowadays it’s so much different. I think I’m the right person for now.” Post navigation The Unspoken Topic Regarding Nottingham Forest Glenn Irwin extends contract with PBM Ducati for 2025 and 2026
