Reading midfielder Ben Elliott has voiced his ambition to restore the club, known as the Royals, “back to where they belong.” Elliott has been a consistent presence for Reading this season, participating in all 14 of their League One fixtures to date. Reading’s relegation to League One occurred in 2023, following a decade of consecutive seasons in the Championship. Under manager Ruben Selles, the team concluded the previous season in 16th place within the third tier. Elliott joined Reading from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 and has since established himself as a regular starter, featuring in every one of their 14 league games this season. Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire, Elliott stated, “The team’s been doing well but we can still improve.” He added, “It’s been nice to get lots of starts and I’m definitely enjoying myself out there but I just try to keep kicking on and putting myself in the manager’s team sheet.” Elliott further expressed his commitment, saying, “I want to help this team push on and get this club back to where it belongs, I’m also trying to improve as much as possible myself.” This season, Reading’s league performance comprises seven victories, two draws, and five defeats, positioning them 10th in the third tier standings. The team has demonstrated strong home form, accumulating 18 points at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, which ranks as the second-best home record within the division. Conversely, their away performance has yielded only five points from seven matches since the season commenced. The 22-year-old Elliott further commented, “We always want to be looking up at where we can go.” He elaborated, “This team has good potential but we need to improve our away form and hopefully we can carry on what we have been doing at home.” Reading will have a chance to enhance their away record this Saturday when they face Peterborough, who currently sit in 12th position.
