Despite Rangers’ perfect home Premiership record this season prior to Dundee United’s visit, their recent performances had been unconvincing. This suggested an opportunity for the visitors if they could contain their opponents. Similar to their recent League Cup semi-final victory against Motherwell, Rangers conceded the opening goal when an opposing player moved undetected between two defenders to score, once again putting them in a challenging position. In their attacking play, Philippe Clement’s team exhibited a deficit in urgency, tempo, width, and conviction. The substitutions made at half-time, bringing on Ianis Hagi and Danilo for Mohamed Diomande and Cyriel Dessers, helped to resolve some of these deficiencies, leading to a significantly enhanced performance in the second half. The partnership between Vaclav Cerny, who scored, and Danilo proved particularly effective. However, Danilo and Hagi’s absence from Rangers’ European squad means they are ineligible to participate in Thursday’s Europa League match away to Nice.
