Portsmouth’s forward, Mark O’Mahony, is anticipated to be out of action for “four to five weeks” because of an oblique muscle injury, according to manager John Mousinho. O’Mahony, who is on loan to the Blues from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, has scored two league goals this season and made nine league appearances so far. The injury occurred during Portsmouth’s 2-2 draw against Swansea at the end of November, leading him to miss Saturday’s matchday squad against Bristol City. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Mousinho stated, “We’re looking at about 4-5 weeks with Mark.” He further explained, “He’s back with Brighton at the moment so we’re going to be lead by them and their medical department, he’s got a strain the oblique muscle.” Mousinho also commented on the recovery timeline, saying, “It’s about what he thought it would be timing wise, we think he’ll be back around the middle of January, hopefully slightly sooner but around then.” The absence of the 19-year-old is a setback for Portsmouth, but Mousinho remains confident in his squad’s current striking options and insists there will be no need for new recruits in January. Striker Colby Bishop has made an impressive return to the first team after undergoing open heart surgery during the summer. However, Kusini Yengi is facing a nine to 10-week recovery period due to a knee injury. The Blues also have Elias Sorensen and Christian Saydee available as additional choices. Mousinho reiterated his position on player acquisitions, adding, “It doesn’t make a difference to us in the market this January.” He concluded, “We won’t be looking to strengthen the centre-forward department, we’re absolutely fine there.” Portsmouth has recently shown strong form, remaining undefeated in their last three games, including a convincing 3-0 victory over Bristol City on Saturday. This win moved them off the bottom of the table, with several games in hand due to previous postponements against Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough. Mousinho’s team is scheduled to host Norwich City on Tuesday before traveling to face fellow promotion side from last season, Derby County, on Friday.
