John Mousinho, the manager of Portsmouth football club, has conveyed birthday greetings to one of the team’s most senior supporters. Maisie Bartlett, who recently marked her 105th birthday, also received an unexpected video message from Guy Whittingham, a former Pompey manager and striker. According to her son, Robin Bartlett, “Mum is a huge fan and listens to every game on BBC Radio Solent.” Ms. Bartlett expressed gratitude to Mousinho and Whittingham for their birthday felicitations, stating her wish for the team to achieve a “big win” on Sunday. Mr. Mousinho’s video message, intended for Mr. Bartlett to present to his mother at her surprise birthday celebration, conveyed: “A very, very happy 105th birthday, an amazing achievement.” It continued: “Many happy returns from myself, all of the staff, all of the players and everyone here at the football club.” Guy Whittingham, a former player for Portsmouth, remarked: “Maisie, I understand you’re 105. I can’t even contemplate turning that number.” He added: “May I wish you a very happy birthday, look after yourself and best wishes.” Mr. Bartlett attributed his mother’s longevity to the age of 105 to her being “stubborn and just gets on with it.” He further explained: “She has an attitude of ‘I’ll make it through whatever happens’.” He mentioned that they tune into every Portsmouth game on BBC Radio Solent, noting: “We both love Andrew Moon’s commentary. He’s very emotional when he says ‘goal’.” He concluded: “The best birthday present mum could receive is Pompey beating Coventry this weekend.” Ms. Bartlett commented: “They better beat them.” You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
