Plymouth Argyle has been sanctioned with a £45,000 fine due to a pitch invasion that took place at the end of last season during their match against Hull City. The club has indicated that it may be compelled to finance this penalty through “player trading.” The incident occurred in early May at Home Park, where fans entered the pitch after the final whistle of Argyle’s 1-0 victory, a result that secured the club’s safety in the Championship. In addition to levying the fine, the Football Association has issued a warning to the club regarding its future conduct. Argyle issued a statement on its website, saying: “Supporters were reminded before, during and after the game not to enter the field of play as it is a criminal offence and will bring charges to the football club.” The club added, “While we understand the joy we all felt after securing our Championship survival for another season, these charges are not budgeted for.” It further elaborated on its financial strategy: “In line with our sustainable values, we will need to fund this significant fee out of the facilities improvement budget and, in the worst-case scenario, from player trading.”
