Members of a football team delivered holiday cheer to a hospital ward by distributing early Christmas gifts to young patients. Players from Peterborough United visited children at Peterborough City Hospital (PCH). The club, in conjunction with the Posh Foundation, presented the patients with gifts sourced from a local toy shop. Jed Steer, goalkeeper for Posh, described the day as “magical day” for everyone involved, noting it brought “a smile on all of our faces,” including those children spending Christmas away from home. Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Steer stated: “We are giving out presents to lots of children who are unfortunately here in hospital.” He added, “We are here to try to cheer them up and put a smile on their faces…it has been so magical.” Zoe Wilkinson, the play service co-ordinator for the children’s ward, commented that the club provided “lovely presents” and that the visit positively impacted both parents and children. She remarked, “Its been brilliant,” continuing, “It really makes the children happy and The Posh bring an element of joy for Christmas.” Wilkinson further noted, “They have been making the children smile, laugh and getting down to their level….it put a smile on their faces.” Kieran Scarff, the assistant manager, stated: “We are no different to any other football club.” He added, “We are an important part of our community so it’s important to play our part.” Follow Peterborough news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
