Torquay United manager Paul Wotton has stated that goalkeeper James Hamon is demonstrating his critics to be mistaken. The 29-year-old Guernsey-born keeper, who previously played 27 times in League Two for Exeter City before departing in 2019, followed Wotton to Plainmoor this summer from Truro City. This marks his second tenure at the club, having previously been on loan in 2021. Earlier in the season, some supporters had voiced concerns regarding the former Exeter City player’s performance. However, Hamon has been instrumental in the Gulls’ recent defensive record, contributing to a streak where they have conceded only once in five matches, including Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Boreham Wood. “I’m really happy for James because he’s come in for a little bit of criticism not so long ago,” Wotton informed BBC Radio Cornwall. He continued, “He’s gone and kept four out of five clean sheets and I thought he was excellent.” Wotton concluded by saying, “You can see why he’s the goalkeeper for Torquay United. I thought his kicking was great, I thought his decision-making was great and I’m really happy for him because I thought it was unfair what came his way a few weeks back.”
