Over £3,000 has been collected to support a footballer who required jaw surgery after sustaining an injury during a game. Josh Owers, a 22-year-old midfielder from Bristol playing for Taunton Town, experienced a brain bleed and a double jaw fracture following an incident during a match on Saturday, November 9. Richard Luffman, the club’s manager, established a fundraising page soon after the injury to provide assistance to Owers during his period of inability to play football. Gary Owers, his father and a former Bristol City player, stated: “We’re overwhelmed with the support he’s been shown.” He added: “Nobody asked them to do that – they just did it.” “To see all the donations and messages wishing him well has been amazing.” Taunton Town competes in the Southern League Premier Division South, which represents the seventh level of English football. Luffman reported on Owers’ recovery, saying: “He’s a tough boy is Josh, he’s in good spirits now.” “We put the fundraiser together to try and generate some income for him, because he’s a bit groggy at the moment and the last thing you want to be worrying about is your financials.” “He’s only been with us (Taunton Town) a short period, and straight away he’s come in and he’s really well-liked in the dressing room.”
