A company has been selected to manage a new beach sports facility scheduled to commence operations on Hove seafront by next summer. Brighton & Hove City Council has appointed Yellowave, an organization that currently operates a similar venue on Brighton seafront, to oversee the new amenities. This location, forming part of the multi-million pound Hove Beach Park initiative, is planned to feature three sand courts and a five-a-side beach soccer pitch. Katie Mintram, a Director at Yellowave, stated: “We are thrilled to be able to bring beach sports to Hove.” Co-director Spencer Mintram commented that “as born and bred locals living in Hove, this site is even more special to us”. The completion of Hove Beach Park is anticipated for next year, despite certain areas already being accessible to the public. Yellowave, which commenced operations at its Brighton location in 2007, provides all state schools with 10 hours of complimentary court access during the off-peak season, a program it has verified will extend to Hove. Mr Mintram added: “Working with the schools that we attended as kids, to get more young people taking part in sand sports, life-saving and beach education is something we feel delighted to be able to deliver.” The facility in Hove is scheduled to launch as an element of the Kingsway to the Sea project, an initiative designed to revitalize underutilized areas in West Hove. Yellowave Brighton recently received designation as a National Beach Volleyball Development Centre from Volleyball England, the UK’s governing body. Both the Brighton and Hove locations will provide an area for students to conduct training as part of a new volleyball academy provided by Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College.
