This year’s Scottish Sports Awards will feature four Olympic medallists competing for the top accolades, including Neah Evans, Jack Carlin, Beth Potter, and Duncan Scott. Cyclists Neah Evans and Jack Carlin, triathlete Beth Potter, and swimmer Duncan Scott have received nominations for the female and male athlete of the year categories. Scotland women’s cricket captain Kathryn Bryce and golfer Robert MacIntyre are also contenders for these awards. For the female Para-athlete award, the nominees include Hope Gordon (canoeing), Samantha Kinghorn (athletics), and Faye Rogers (swimming). In the male Para-athlete category, Stephen Clegg (swimming), Fin Graham (cycling), and Stephen McGuire (boccia) have been nominated. Celtic’s women’s team has been nominated in the team of the year category, following their achievement of winning their maiden SWPL title and becoming the first Scottish side to qualify for the Champions League group stages. They face competition from the United Rugby Championship winners Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland women’s cricket team, which secured qualification for the T20 World Cup. The ‘Moment of the Year’ award, decided by public vote, features nominations such as Glasgow’s URC victory and MacIntyre’s Scottish Open triumph in July. Other contenders for this public award include Jasmin Paris for her participation in the 100-mile Barkley Marathons; Andy Murray’s performance at the Olympics; Scott Brash’s team showjumping gold medal win in Paris; and Ben Sandilands for his world-breaking 1500m run at the Paralympics. Voters also have the option to select Josh Kerr’s gold medal win at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and Gordon Reid’s Paralympics tennis doubles gold.
