The chairman of a League One football club has indicated that the construction of a much-anticipated new stand at the team’s stadium is progressing as planned. The East Stand of Northampton Town has been unfinished since 2014, when building efforts ceased because of a contractual disagreement; however, construction resumed during the summer months. In September, West Northamptonshire Council turned down an application for a non-material amendment concerning the site. Kelvin Thomas, chairman of the Cobblers, stated: “The East Stand is being completed in front of everyone’s eyes. We’ve always said [the stand would be built] by the first quarter of 2025 and we’re well on track for that.” Upon its completion, the stand is projected to boost the stadium’s capacity by approximately 400 seats, reaching a total of over 8,200, and will introduce the club’s inaugural pitch-facing hospitality facilities, including executive boxes. Additional parking provisions, new dining establishments, and the reintroduction of an accessible viewing platform for wheelchair-using supporters are also included in the proposals. The club finalized an agreement to finish the stadium construction following West Northamptonshire Council’s approval of a land sale to the club in February. This transaction encompassed land situated behind the stadium, a parcel that has been central to continuous discussions regarding development strategies throughout the years. Mr. Thomas further indicated that the plot would “probably be warehousing,” explaining that it offered “the best financial return to the club.” Post navigation Hugo Lloris Reflects on White Hart Lane Departure’s Impact on Tottenham’s Trophy Pursuit RFU’s Latest Accounts Ignite Outcry Regarding Executive Salaries and Redundancies
