Braintree’s John Akinde engaged with Forest Green defender Ryan Inniss. Steve Pitt, the recently appointed manager of Braintree Town, is confident his team possesses a foundation for ascending the National League standings, even after their defeat on penalties to Forest Green Rovers in the FA Trophy. Pitt’s appointment occurred last week, subsequent to the dismissal of previous manager Angelo Harrop on November 27. After Harrop’s exit, Braintree achieved a draw against Gateshead in the league and secured a 3-2 victory over West Brom Under-21s in the National League Cup, with Justin Moseley serving as caretaker manager. The FA Trophy match against Forest Green concluded in a 1-1 draw, leading to a penalty shootout, and despite his squad’s elimination, Pitt informed BBC Essex: “We went toe to toe with one of the best, if not the best, teams in the league – you only have to look at the quality of players they’ve got front to back. “As soon as we got the teamsheet we realised they’d only made one change from the team for last weekend’s draw with Halifax so we knew they were taking the competition seriously, we knew they’d come here to win a game of football and I thought we acquitted ourselves extremely well.”This gives us a platform. Justin set the team up extremely well for the last two games, he changed the formation to 4-2-3-1 which I like anyway.” Braintree is scheduled to face Nottingham Forest Under-21s on Tuesday, prior to Pitt’s inaugural league match in command, which will be an away fixture against Yeovil Town on Saturday. The team currently occupies the 19th position in the standings, situated merely one point clear of the relegation zone, after achieving promotion last season. Pitt had previously served as Harrop’s assistant prior to his departure from the club at the close of 2023 and expressed pleasure at being asked to return to the top managerial position. “The club approached me after Angelo left the club, not the other way round, which I considered to be quite an accolade in itself,” he said. “The relationship I’ve got with the chairman and the board and the people behind the scenes is obviously a positive because from my point of view, I’ve been able to hit the ground running.” Sandi Toksvig will be accompanied by Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Alan Davies. Sing along to tracks from Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, and others. Ben Fogle and Kate Humble return for the celebrations at Longleat Safari Park.
