Ireland’s Nathan Wiffen, competing in his inaugural World Championships in Budapest, achieved a personal best time of 14:32.65, securing ninth position in the 1500m freestyle event. Wiffen’s performance marked an improvement of over six seconds from his previous personal best of 14:38.75. He finished sixth in his heat, leading to his ninth-place overall ranking. Nathan, the twin brother of Olympic gold and bronze medallist Daniel, is scheduled to return to the pool on Thursday for the 400m freestyle heats. Also in action was Ireland’s Ellen Walshe, who established several new personal records during her events. Walshe placed fifth in the 200m individual medley, setting a new record of 2:05.52. In the same race, USA’s Kate Douglass claimed victory in the final with a new world record time of 2:01.63. Additionally, Walshe finished 14th overall in the semi-finals of the 50m butterfly, achieving a new record of 25.45. She is set to compete again on Thursday in the 100m individual medley. However, Olympian Danielle Hill experienced a less favorable outcome, as she did not advance past the heats of the women’s 100m backstroke, finishing 19th overall. Hill will return to the pool on Wednesday for the 100m freestyle event.
