Zafar Gohar recorded 19 Championship wickets in 2024, achieving a personal best of 6-76. Middlesex Cricket has announced the signing of former Gloucestershire all-rounder Zafar Gohar, who will join the club on a two-year contract. The 29-year-old player was not extended a new contract by Gloucestershire after a season where a groin injury limited his participation. He accumulated 118 County Championship wickets for Gloucestershire with his left-arm spin since his debut in 2021, in addition to scoring eight half-centuries with the bat. Middlesex managing director Alan Coleman stated, “Adding an international quality spinner to our line-up will strengthen us and add a greater threat on all types of surfaces.” He further added, “Adding a senior bowler to our white-ball teams will also help the side in those situations where we’ve lacked some experience in the shorter formats in recent years.” Gohar claimed figures of 2-54 for Pakistan against England in a one-day international held in Sharjah in 2015. His sole Test appearance occurred in New Zealand six years later, where he registered figures of 0-159 during an innings defeat. Expressing his excitement, Gohar remarked, “I’m thrilled to be joining Middlesex and making Lord’s my home ground for the next two years.” He continued, “It’s a club steeped in history and to be a part of this next chapter is hugely exciting.” Middlesex’s most recent trophy success was in 2016, when they secured the County Championship title. This past summer, the team failed to achieve promotion, finishing third in Division Two, trailing second-placed Yorkshire by 21 points.
