Luton Town manager Rob Edwards, who has led the club since November 2022, stated that the recent international break provided an opportunity to regain his focus amidst discussions regarding his position. Following a 5-1 loss to Middlesbrough on November 9, Edwards acknowledged that his situation was beyond his direct control. This defeat marked the team’s eighth in 15 games this season, positioning Luton 21st in the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League in May. Edwards confirmed he held discussions with chief executive Gary Sweet and other club personnel. Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, he stated: “When people are asking about your job, there are certain elements that are out of my control.” He added: “Time passes, we were able to talk about a few things, it’s settled and I’m able to get real focus again and get back to work.” Edwards also noted the prolonged difficulty, saying: “It’s been tough for quite a long time now. There are a lot of challenges on and off the pitch and I’m working on that.” He concluded regarding the talks: “Gary and I had a lot of discussions, really positive and healthy – he’s been extremely supportive, as has the board.” Edwards characterized his remarks immediately following the Middlesbrough match as both honest and emotional. He was quoted at that time saying: “If it is (the end), then I’ve loved my time here. It’s been two incredible years where we’ve had incredible highs and reached heights that we probably never thought we would, or were capable of.” Luton is scheduled to host Hull City this Saturday, with subsequent away fixtures against Leeds United and Norwich City. Edwards commented on the upcoming schedule, stating: “We’re not looking any further than Hull at the moment but we’re aware of what comes next. We’ll take each one (as they happen), that’s all we can do, not look too far ahead.” Wing-back Alfie Doughty will be unavailable for the match against Hull, representing the most recent in a series of injury challenges that have impacted Luton throughout the current season. Edwards further remarked: “We know there’s inconsistency in what we’re delivering, particularly between home and away form. We have to get that right, whether that’s just in games or from game to game.” He continued: “The last couple of weeks in training have been good. We had a real disappointment last time out and what we need to do now is show some character, some bravery and deliver a performance. If we do that at home, we know we’re a match for anyone.” He concluded by stating: “We’re a work in progress, there’s been a lot of change but we have seen some good signs, particularly at home.” Post navigation Quiz: England Players Who Have Participated in the IPL Celtic’s Cup Victory Attributed to Resilience and Determination
