Luke Williams expressed feeling “dreadful” towards Swansea City’s supporters who traveled, following his team’s disappointing 2-1 loss against Hull City. Swansea City delivered what was arguably their poorest display of the season, suffering a decisive defeat to a Hull City team (referred to as the Tigers) that, with this victory, moved away from the bottom of the Championship standings, marking their initial win in 14 games. At the MKM Stadium, Swansea City struggled to establish any momentum, with a combination of sluggishness and insufficient skill proving detrimental against the home side, who could have secured an even more decisive victory. Addressing questions regarding the fans who undertook the extensive pre-Christmas journey to Humberside, Williams stated: “The performance wasn’t one that they could feel proud of. I feel dreadful about that, as you can probably tell.” He added, “We have to do a far better job in the future and try to show them how much their efforts mean to us.” Williams had previously expressed frustration concerning Swansea’s mental approach following their home defeat to Sunderland the previous weekend, a match in which they had held a 2-0 lead against the Black Cats. However, a strong comeback from that performance did not materialize at Hull, where Swansea began the game weakly and failed to gain traction, even after Harry Darling’s excellent header late in the first half equalized Joao Pedro’s initial deflected goal. Despite Swansea hitting the post via Ben Cabango after halftime, Hull — having themselves struck the woodwork on two occasions — secured a merited victory when Mason Burstow exploited an error by Lawrence Vigouroux to net the decisive goal. “I don’t think there have been too many games where we have played terribly, I really don’t,” commented Williams, whose exasperation was apparent for the second consecutive weekend. He continued, “I think for the most part we have played pretty well. But today wasn’t a good day for us and we got the result that matched our performance.” Williams concurred with the proposition that Swansea’s mental fortitude might once more be scrutinized following such an inadequate showing. “I think we worked pretty hard,” he further stated. “There’s not bundles in the game when you look at it from a numbers point of view – there’s not a huge amount between the teams.” He concluded, “But certainly it didn’t look like us at our best, far from it. We have seen the group play far better than that.” Post navigation Jack Nowell on Adapting to Life in France: From Challenges to Contentment Rangers Criticize French Police Over Fan Safety in Nice
