Ruud van Nistelrooy is only four games into his Leicester City management, but the initial optimism generated by his victorious start against West Ham appears to have vanished. Following last week’s 4-0 loss at Newcastle, Leicester found themselves trailing 3-0 at half-time against a Wolves team whose manager had just been dismissed after a four-match losing streak. Even after numerous substitutions at half-time and early in the second half, the Foxes created minimal problems for Wolves. However, what is most troubling for Van Nistelrooy is that the three goals conceded were primarily due to poor defending rather than Wolves’ attacking prowess. Jannik Vestergaard and James Justin were responsible for the first two goals, while goalkeeper Danny Ward could have performed better on the second. The third goal resulted from a general lack of urgency across the Leicester defence, an issue Van Nistelrooy must address to prevent the Foxes from dropping into the relegation zone during the festive period.
