Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes offered his perspective following his team’s 1-1 draw against Motherwell. McInnes asserted that his team was superior throughout the game, particularly in the first half, and that Motherwell’s goal occurred against the flow of play. He stated, “We were the better team throughout. We were the better team in the first half and the goal went against the run of play.” He characterized the opposing goal as “untidy” and “scrappy,” noting the challenge it presented. However, McInnes commended his team’s subsequent response, especially in the second half. “It’s such an untidy, scrappy goal and we had it all to do. Our response was good though. Second-half, we worked down the sides a lot more, played in their half more, had more vigour about us.” According to McInnes, Kilmarnock’s equalizer was well-deserved, and they created the best scoring opportunities in the second half. While acknowledging the positive aspect of securing a point after trailing, he believed the team’s overall performance warranted a victory. He remarked, “We deservedly got our equaliser. We had the best opportunities in the second half. The old adage about a point in the road, coming from behind, there’s plenty of positives – but the performance on the day would have won us all three points on another day.” Despite earning a hard-fought point, McInnes expressed some disappointment at not securing all three points, suggesting a need for increased composure. “We needed to show more composure. It’s a hard-fought point but we are a bit disappointed not to take all three points.” He concluded by noting that the performance aligns with the team’s improved form over the past few matches, highlighting continued positive developments. “It continues the vain of the last two or three games where we look more like ourselves. There’s plenty of positives.”
