Mikey Johnston, who had not found the net in 24 appearances since his previous goal for Albion during his loan spell last April, expressed satisfaction at concluding his personal scoring drought this season. He achieved this with a match-winning double against Bristol City. However, despite these being his first goals since April, he remained dissatisfied with his individual display. Speaking to BBC Radio WM, Johnston stated, “I’ve been working hard to get the rewards and finally it happened.” He added, “But I’ve had better games and not scored, but gone close.” Johnston further commented on the nature of the sport, saying, “That’s football sometimes. One goes in and then you get another – it’s only the second I’ve scored with my head though.” His initial goal against the Robins came from a header, following a characteristic right-wing cross delivered by Tom Fellows. “Defenders know it’s coming but they still can’t stop it,” Johnston remarked with a smile. The subsequent goal was a right-foot curler, a type of shot he had perfected during his initial loan period from Celtic last spring. He finalized his transfer from Glasgow to the south on deadline day this August. “I do that every day in training and this time it’s come off,” he commented. Johnston also noted, “But I’ve been in and out a bit this season and finding a bit of rhythm can be tough.” He concluded, “We’ve got a lot of games coming up but that’s a good start and it’s nice to be back on the scoresheet.”
