Analise Merritt remained not out in both of Jersey’s encounters with Gibraltar. The Jersey women’s team concluded their 2024 season by securing impressive back-to-back Twenty20 victories against Gibraltar. Following their triumph in the Challenger Division of the European Cricket Championships in Malaga on Saturday, they maintained their strong performance with wins recorded on Sunday and Monday at Europa Point. During their initial match, Jersey required only eight-and-a-half overs to successfully pursue a target of 60 runs, achieving an eight-wicket victory against a Gibraltar team that holds a two-place higher position in the world rankings. Captain Chloe Greechan secured two wickets for a mere two runs across her four overs, while Grace Wetherhall achieved figures of 2-9, with only two of the host nation’s batters managing to reach double-digit scores. In response, Aimee Aikenhead contributed 18 runs, and her opening partner Analise Merritt registered 17 runs not out, as Jersey concluded their innings at 61-2 in 8.3 overs. During the second match on Monday, Merritt, Flo Tanguy, and Georgia Mallett each claimed two wickets, leading to Gibraltar being bowled out for 72 runs in 17.5 overs. Noelle Laguea’s score of 26 runs from 25 balls stood out as the top performance for the home team. Merritt and Aikenhead once more performed exceptionally with the bat, establishing an opening partnership of 54 runs before Aikenhead was caught out after scoring 19 runs from 21 balls. Merritt proceeded to score 26 runs not out from 17 balls, concluding Jersey’s tour with a six that secured a nine-wicket victory for the islanders, who reached 76-1 in six-and-a-half overs.
