Jack Cannon, Jersey’s record Muratti appearance-holder with 23 Muratti Vase matches played for the island, has been named the new manager of the island’s men’s representative team. Cannon, who spent time in his youth with AFC Bournemouth, played a record 23 times for the Jersey FA side. He succeeds Elliott Powell, who stepped down from the position last month to focus on his managerial duties with club side Jersey Bulls. Cannon will be supported by Peter Vincenti, a Jersey-born former midfielder for Macclesfield Town, Coventry City, Rochdale, and Aldershot, who was part of Powell’s previous backroom staff. Vincenti’s father, also named Peter, was one of the island side’s most successful managers, having won multiple Muratti Vase titles and the 1997 Island Games gold medal. Cannon expressed his honour regarding the appointment, stating, “I’m incredibly honoured to take on this position and to lead the island I played for with so much pride for so many years.” He further added, “Peter and I work really well together. His appointment provides us with some continuity from the previous regime, which has performed so well in recent years winning a series of consecutive Murattis and that Island Games gold in 2023.“I’m keen to get out to watch as many local players as possible over the months ahead to help shape our first squad, and I’m looking forward to getting started.” The Jersey Football Association received nine applications for the role and interviewed four candidates before selecting Cannon, who has also had a distinguished club career on the island with St Paul’s. Jersey FA chief executive Tim Pryor commented on the selection: “Jack’s leadership skills and desire shone through during the interview and application process, along with his extensive tournament experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he, Peter and their backroom team can achieve with this high-quality group of players.” Pryor also noted, “There’s an exciting second half of the season to come and plenty of opportunity for Jack to further build on the successes of recent years, whilst also shaping a team of his own.” Post navigation Sri Lanka Registers Lowest Test Score in Men’s Team History, Bowled Out for 42 Phil Foden Attributes Manchester City’s Recent Struggles to a “Mental Thing”
