Ireland’s Eimear Considine, a back, has declared her retirement from rugby at the age of 33. She was instrumental in Ireland’s significant victory against New Zealand in September. Considine, a native of Limerick where she played camogie and gaelic football during her youth, began playing rugby only at 23 years old following her relocation to Dublin. She was subsequently recruited into the Ireland Sevens program and made her debut in the 15-a-side format in 2017. She regularly played at both full-back and wing for Ireland. In the 2022 Six Nations, she suffered an ACL injury, and in January 2023, she gave birth to her son, Caolan. A second ACL injury led to another period away from the sport for Considine. However, her strong performance upon returning to play with Munster resulted in her selection for the September match against Australia. In her first appearance in over two years, she scored a try as Ireland unexpectedly defeated the Wallaroos in Belfast. She also played a crucial role when Scott Bemand’s team achieved another surprising victory against New Zealand in WXV1 later in the same month. Considine’s last try for Ireland occurred in her second-to-last game against Canada. Her 29th and final appearance in the green jersey was against the USA in October. Considine shared on social media, stating: “At the age of 23, I was given an opportunity to play rugby. I had no idea back then of the incredible journey that lay ahead. But now, after 10 years, I feel it’s time that the journey ends.” She continued, addressing her coaches and teammates: “To all my coaches throughout the years at Bohs, Munster, and Ireland, thank you for backing me. To all my team-mates, I have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.” Considine concluded her message by thanking supporters: “To all the supporters, you’ve been there through thick and thin and I look forward to joining you from here on out.” Post navigation Joe Hugill’s Initial Performance at Wigan Athletic Gallagher Commends Dundee United’s Response to Challenging Pre-Match Conditions
