Hailing from Norway, Jakob Ingebrigtsen achieved a decisive victory at the European Cross Country Championships held in Turkey, marking his third capture of the men’s senior title within a four-year span. The 24-year-old Olympic 5,000m gold medalist, who opted out of last year’s competition, successfully regained his championship status following a commanding display at Dokuma Park in Antalya. In the concluding lap, he distanced himself from the other competitors, finishing with a time of 22 minutes 16 seconds. This placed him eight seconds ahead of Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa, who secured second position, with Spain’s Thierry Ndikumwenayo taking third. Rory Leonard, the leading British runner, finished in ninth place, contributing to Great Britain’s bronze medal win in the men’s team standings. Kate Axford’s 10th-place finish aided the British team in securing silver in the women’s senior race, an event won by Italy’s Nadia Battocletti. Furthermore, the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team earned bronze in the inaugural mixed relay. Will Barnicoat successfully defended his title in the men’s under-23s category, outpacing Ireland’s Nicholas Griggs, while his team-mate David Stone secured third place. GB’s Phoebe Anderson secured the women’s U23s title.
