The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Dubai will serve as the neutral venue for India’s matches during the upcoming Champions Trophy next year. India and Pakistan last competed in June at the T20 World Cup held in New York. The eight-team competition, scheduled for February and March, is set to take place in Pakistan. Earlier this month, Pakistan had indicated that India informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) of its unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Under the terms of this agreement, Pakistan will also compete at a neutral location for any events hosted by India through 2027. A spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board stated, “Pakistan has chosen Dubai as the neutral venue for the Champions Trophy and it has been conveyed to the ICC officially, meaning India will play its matches there.” Political tensions have prevented the two countries from playing each other outside of men’s major tournaments since 2013, and India has not played in Pakistan since 2008. This 50-over Champions Trophy marks the first instance of Pakistan hosting a global cricket event since 1996. Pakistan is also slated to host the women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, where similar neutral venue arrangements will be implemented. Besides host nation Pakistan, the countries participating in the Champions Trophy are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to release the final tournament schedule by the end of next week.
