Under-pressure Hull City head coach Tim Walter, whose side has achieved only one home victory this Championship season, stated that his struggling team must “fight and stick together” after their 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. The defeat extended their winless streak in the Championship to seven successive games, leaving them in 19th place, with only goal difference separating them from the bottom three. However, the German boss for the Tigers maintains that his squad is making progress and needs to keep their spirits high. “We are not happy with the result but the improvement in the performance was obvious. That’s what keeps me strong and keeps me happy,” Walter informed BBC Radio Humberside. He continued, “If you have a negative run, like we are having, all you can do is fight against it and stick together.” Walter also remarked, “We need big character and that’s what we showed. I know the results will come. We need a bit more luck.” Another aspect that pleased Walter, who had recently called for an open conversation with the fans, was the vocal support from the crowd at MKM Stadium during the game against the Baggies, despite some home fans voicing demands for his tenure at the club to end. “The reaction from our fans was brilliant. They tried to keep us up and to keep us in the game. That was really good and I’m really pleased,” said Walter, who previously managed Hamburg.
